Abstract:

The study of fishes in aquatic ecosystems is important in many ways, including ecology, ethology, conservation and management of water resources, reserves and aquaculture, so the present study compared the geometric morphometrics of Barilius mesopotamicus populations in Bushehr basin. For this purpose, 140 fish specimens were sampled from Ahram, Zohreh, Kheirabad, Karzin, Shahpur and Darolmizan rivers. Specimens were transported to the laboratory after anesthetizing in 1% clove oil solution and fixing in 10% formalin. Pictures were taken from the left side of the specimens under similar condition and digitized using 15 landmarks placed on two-dimensional images using Tpsdig2 software. The data after Procrast analysis were analyzed with PCA, CVA multivariate statistical methods and cluster analysis. Geometric morphometric comparisons by CVA and cluster analyses showed significant differences in the studied populations and only Aharm and Karzin populations were were overlapping. Differences among the populations were due to differences in the body shape, head size and shape and body height.

Abstract:

Different scorpions from buthidae family are present in Khuzestan province (southwest of Iran). These species are variable in size and color and some of them are medically important. In this research, hemispermatophore of Buthidae species was morphologically studied. In this research some species of scorpions such as Mesobuthus eupeus, Apistobuthus sosani, Odontobuthus odentorusand Composobuthus were studied. In comparison of hemispermatophore in different species, it was found that some parameters of hemispermatophore are generalized and some others like the size of capsule are specific among the species.According to statistical analysis of obtained data, scorpion species in a genus did not show a significant difference in different parts of hemispermatophore at 5% significance level, and this analysis revealed that the specifications among the species in a genus were so close, but in the two family of Buthidae and Hemiscorpionidae scorpions, the hemispermatophore was different.

Abstract:

Background: The concept of allometry states that the relative rate of change of a system unit is a constant fraction of the relative rate of change of the entire system, or of another part of the system. This concept is stated as a nonlinear relationship and has been verified in a variety of natural systems.Materials and Methods: The allometric relations in various phases of basin evolution in forms of static and dynamic models was investigated. In order to study the dynamic allometry, a model consisting of two basins was developed. The evolution stages and the erosion changes caused by artificial rainfall and tectonic movements and also in static form (natural basins) were monitored. Results: The existence of allometric relations in drainage basins that are progressing toward the equilibrium (natural basins and basins affected by erosion) are significant and verifiable. This kind of relations do not exist in tectonic affected basins that were moving away from the equilibrium. Conclusions: Allometric relations in drainage basins can define different states of system such as equilibrium. Moreover, any factor that causes the basin to move away from equilibrium needs to have an initial effect on basin relations to cause disorder in the system, and this change, in many cases, can be formulated or demonstrated by allometric model. Therefore the allometric equations could be considered an important tool in predicting the evolution of drainage basins and assessing their performance in the past and present.

Abstract:

This study aimed to find morphological traits to discriminate four species of the genus Cobitis in Iran using geometric morphometric method. For this purpose, a total of 65 specimens were captured from Sefid (C. saniae), Siah (C. faridpaki), Maloosjan (C. linea) and Gamasiab (C. avicennae) rivers using electrofishing device. To extract the body shape data of the studied taxa, 14 Landmarks-point were defined and digitized using tpsDig2 software. Data after generalized procrust analysis were analyzed using principal component analysis, multivariate analysis of variance /canonical variate analysis and cluster analysis. The results showed a significant difference in the body shape between the studied species (p < 0. 001). Cluster analysis positioned C. avicennae in one clade, distinguish from others. The results also revealed that the members of this genus can adapt themselves to the environmental parameters of their habitats by alternations in the body depth, head size and snout position, length of the caudal peduncle and positions of the dorsal, anal and pectoral fins.

Abstract:

Morphometric comparison of sagitta otolith in 10 clupeid species of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea including Anodontostoma chacunda, Dussumieria acuta, Dussumieria elopsoides, llisha megaloptera, Ilisha melastoma, Nematolosa nasus, Sardinella gibbosa, Sardinella longiceps, Sardinella sindensisand Tenualosa ilisha), was conducted during 2007-2008. We found no significant differences in morphology and morphometry of the left and right otoliths except for A. chacunda and N nasus. For the latter species the left sagitta otoliths were used. Investigation of otolith morphometric characteristics (length, breadth, weight, perimeter, area, and number of scallops) was also conducted which showed perimeter and number of scallops were the most effective individual otolith characteristics for distinguishing between species. The study indicated that sagitta otoliths have particular morphometric characteristics which are useful in identification of these species.

Abstract:

Tatera indica is a subfamily of the Tatera and the Muridaefamily. This species is found in most places, including dry and semi-arid areas, rivers, planted areas and sides of the irrigation and drainage channels and usually has high adaptability power. This species has great ecological importance because it is the main chain of food chain in nature for animals such as owls, jackals, foxes, snakes and birds. Tatera indica by eating the seeds of plants and repelling them in other areas, at the same time it contributes to the distribution of seeds, on the other hand it is considered as the most important pest of agricultural products among vertebrates. Rodents are one of the most important classes that they need to study in terms of the positive and negative effects that occur in various fields such as agriculture or health. So, the aim of this study was to investigate the morphometric of Tatera indica with trapping in different habitats in Jiroft and Zabol, March 2016 and April 2017. In this study, the samples was hunted by deadly and lifelong trap and were measured 15 samples of the appearance morphological traits and 15 samples of the skull and dental characteristics and were investigated by SPSS 22. The results showed according to Nonparametric Mann-Whitney test, there is a significant difference between all measured variables in both regions (p < 0. 05) and also, characteristics measured in Jiroft species were larger than Zabol.

Abstract:

Background and Objective Floods are one of the most catastrophic and dangerous natural hazards because they are sudden and unpredictable and lead to the destruction of infrastructure, and a threat to human life and property. Identifying areas with high flood potential is one of the most important tasks in flood control and reducing the damage caused by it. Floods are one of the most serious natural hazards that pose serious threats to residential areas and also pose financial and human risks. Floods rank first in terms of damage caused by earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides. Cited. Floods can occur not only in the plains but also in mountainous environments. Flood analysis and its relationship to explanatory variables can help water managers identify the most effective variable in floods. Communities, countries, and continents have suffered severe human losses and economic costs due to the increasing severity and frequency of these natural disasters). In the world due to the increase of these natural disasters, human death in the coming period is probably doubled. Floods are one of the most serious natural hazards that pose a serious threat to residential areas. Climate change and the steady increase in urbanization that occurs with increasing population, followed by an increase in man-made structures, ultimately reduce permeability and possibly further increase the risk of floods and the potential for socio-economic damage. Confirming the growing risks and increasing frequency of flood events, a paradigm shift in flood risk management is observed in many countries, such as Europe. Flood management and mitigation require comprehensive perspectives that take into account a diverse set of flood risk management measures, including active stakeholder engagement, communication, and awareness raising. The present study was conducted in the Neka Rud watershed in Mazandaran province. The use of geographical systems can identify flood-sensitive areas with high accuracy in the shortest time using information layers. This watershed is one of the most important watersheds in the province and its study is of great importance in terms of flood risks due to its high rainfall. Enjoys. The overall purpose of this study is to prioritize sub-basins concerning flooding based on morphological analysis and also to use GIS software as an efficient and cost-effective tool. In this study, the morphometric study of the watershed was investigated and flood sub-basins were identified. The purpose of this study is to identify areas with high flood potential in the Neka River watershed of Mazandaran province to prevent the risks of this natural disaster and prevent financial and human damage. Materials and Methods Seventeen Morphometric parameters were determined to describe the watershed and prioritize the sub-basins of the Neka watershed according to the sensitivity to sudden floods. The basic parameters were measured directly from the DEM using GIS techniques and include basin area, basin length, environment, number of streams, and flow lengths for each flow rating. In this study, very important morphometric parameters were quantitatively selected and used for this analysis. These parameters are directly or inversely related to runoff hazards, peak discharge, and soil erosion. These parameters were divided into three parts: linear, uneven, and surface. Finally, sub-basins were prioritized using this method. To assess the morphology of the watershed, a digital elevation map (DEM) with a resolution of 12. 5 m was loaded. Morphological parameters are directly or inversely related to the outbreak. After morphological ranking, the values of each sub-basin were collected to classify and determine their susceptibility to flash floods. The values of the sum of morphometric parameters summarized from 0 for the lowest rank value and 1 for the highest rank value to obtain the flood sensitivity index for each sub-basin were normalized and finally evaluated. Clear changes are observed in the basic parameters of watersheds such as area, environment, and length of the basin. These basin parameters are a very remarkable hydrological feature. The watershed area varies from 484. 37 square kilometers under the N1 basin to 48. 18 km2 under the N8 basin. The environment can also be used as an indicator of the shape and size of the watershed. According to the obtained results, there is a high correlation between the area and the watershed environment. Results and Discussion The Neka Basin was divided into 12 sub-basins using the Hydrology Toolbox from ArcGIS. According to the obtained results, it was found that sub-basins N8 and N9 have a high priority for flooding. The results show that these two sub-basins are very prone to flooding. Also, sub-basins N11 and N12 have a much lower risk of flooding. The total number of 12 sub-basin flows for the watershed is 366681 and for the first time, it constitutes 52% of the total watershed flows. Geometric values for 12 watersheds are shown in the form of a graph and a straight line, where the log values of the flow number are plotted on a graph. Conclusion Because there are insufficient historical climatic and hydrological records for hydrological modeling, morphometric analysis has been used to assess sub-watershed susceptibility to flooding. The results and analysis obtained in the present study have several fields for practical application and future development. Morphometric analysis of the Neka basin has shown that the watershed is a six-stage drainage system that is very sensitive to flooding. According to the results, sub-basins N8 and N9 have a high risk of flooding. In contrast, the N12 sub-basin has a much lower rate of flooding. The study of the basin showed that the reason for the low flooding below the N12 basin is the shape of the basin and the amount of slope, which has an elongated shape and the area is almost flat in terms of unevenness, which reduces the risk of floods. This study showed that the protection of the region against sudden floods should be the main priority of the competent authorities to protect human lives and agricultural farms and ultimately prevent flood disasters. In this study, it was proved that integration and morphological analysis with GIS can provide a significant tool for understanding the characteristics of watershed sub-basins related to flood management.

Abstract:

In a research project during 1999-2000, transferring polymorphism in blood serum as well as several morphometric and meristic characteristics were determined in 7 groups of carps of different fish farms.Transferring polymorphism in carp is expressed by the occurrence of one or two band phenotypes determined by a series of codominant alleles. In this study, there was significant difference especially between sea and cultured carp (P<0.01).Sampling of sea carp in general have been from race of carp with BB dominant genotype, but fish sample from shahid rajaii fish farm have shown variety genotype including AA, AB, BB, AC, BC and CC.In morphological investigation, the C.V. of meristic characteristics, which is under genetic bases such as number of fin rays and number of scales on lateral line was higher significantly in those fishes caught from the sea than cultured fishes (P<0.00).Relative comparative of mophometric characteristics such as head length to standard length and width of body showed also significant difference between those two groups (P<0.05).
